Wicd update

The WICD initiative was created in response to the need for greater coordination of water-related training and professional development. WICD provides a means for businesses in the water industry to collaborate on training and professional development issues to ensure that staff skills meet the future needs. Since starting in July 2005, one of the key strengths of WICD has been the ability to bring together a diverse industry to collaborate on projects and issues that otherwise would be difficult for any one organisation to address alone. During this time WICD has succeeded in identifying and developing a number of important projects including: Gaps in Skills, Training and Professional Development; University Courses; National Water Industry Employment Branding; and Intro, Water Industry Secondments. All four projects were recently showcased at the first WICD conference at the Gold Coast [see Water Vol 35(3) p.42].
