Assessing the global assessment

As the unique Global International Waters Asscsssment (GIWA) approaches the end of its planned four-year programme, scientific director Dag Daler expresses confidence that the results will produce a credible picture of the state of international waters and a sound scientific background for the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and its partners to assess future funding priorities. That, after all, was the original objective, and it has needed what Daler describes as 'a truly massive exercise - very ambitious and complex not only due to its technicality but also due to its global coverage.'
