Lessons in utility management

Any utility should regard the ongoing improvement of management skills as an important strategy. UK water service company Thames Water, along with energy company nPower, a sister company in the German utility group RWE, is demonstrating just this. The two have entered a partnership with the UK's Chartered Management Institute that will provide a development programme for their managers. Following a successful 12-month pilot programme, the tailored training programmes have been created to complement in-house development initiatives. Under the broad umbrella of 'service management', participants will develop skills focused on self-management and information handling.
