Approaches to the issue of urban stormwater management continue to evolve, particularly with respect to decentralised solutions. LIS STEDMAN looks at some examples of centralised and decentralised approaches in the UK and the US. Dealing with stormwater is an issue that is being driven up the agenda by increasing urbanisation and intense, shortlived rainfall - possibly climate-change driven. The increasing amount of impermeable surfaces, teamed with flash flooding, has led to urban areas around the world suffering inundation.
