A meeting in Singapore in January brought together 40 international experts from the different worlds of water engineering and microbiology in order to look at the potential for advancement of current water and wastewater treatment by the application of life sciences techniques. In what was claimed to be the world's first colloquium on advanced water engineering with micro-organisms Mr. Harry Seah, Director of Singapore's national water agency, PUB, said the manipulation of communities of micro-organisms to enhance treatment processes could advance water safety and bring about major cost savings and resource efficiencies.
