The evolving issue of water efficiency

Francisco Gonzalez Cubillo, director of research, development and innovation at Madrid's water and wastewater utility Canal de Isabel II (CYII), who chairs the extremely active IWA Specialist Group on Efficient Operation and Management of Urban Water Systems, has direct knowledge of the management challenges of bringing about efficiency-related changes. He explains:'My experience and approach to efficiency is very much based on Canal Isabel II, which is responsible for the whole water cycle in Madrid, which has over six million people.'The company provides the entire range of services from water abstraction and treatment through to wastewater treatment and discharge.
