EPA's Blueprint for Innovative Technology

The US EPA's Blueprint for Innovative Technology sets forth a number of initiatives the agency is undertaking to encourage the development of new technologies that will help counter environmental threats, including new contaminants, climate change, and the enduring drought now afflicting several regions of the country. 'It takes a step back and looks at EPA and its role in developing new technology,' says Jeffrey Lape, the principal lead on the Blueprint in US EPA's Office of Water. 'We have to continue to rethink how we get things done. What EPA is attempting to do here is to be a cheerleader, a facilitator, bringing attention to the innovators. The Blueprint does some really novel things, and we've made surprisingly good progress toward these objectives.'
