1963—The hippies were getting started. Young Americans were dodging the draft. Civil disobedience was becoming common. The small contractor I worked for had several wells to do for the Canadian government's parks branch. These small parks and campsites were scattered across the southern half of the province of British Columbia. Consequently the wells were hundreds of miles apart. Although we usually worked alone, this contract called for two people on the job.
