Baylor University student Jim Tucker, who is pursuing his master's degree in geology, works with a groundwater sample from the Trinity Aquifer in Bell County, Texas. He is performing an inflection point titration that adds small amounts of acid to calculate the bicarbonate in groundwater. The acid must be added slowly near the expected inflection point of pH versus added acid. The red pen meter in the beaker measures pH changes and then the inflection point is used to calculate the bicarbonate concentration. Photo submitted by Wayne Hamilton of Baylor University.
