Europe failing to meet wastewater target

Urban wastewater treatment and collection in Europe is improving, according to the latest figures from the EC. However, many member states still are not meeting their obligations. According the Seventh Report on the Implementation of the Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive, which covers the period 2009/10, only 11 of the 27 member states had an adequate collecting and treatment system in place. This is despite standards being set over 20 years ago.
