LANDSCAPE WATER CONSERVATION AND WATER QUALITY PRACTICES GO HAND-IN-HAND

In Colorado, a combination of below normal precipitation and new nutrient control regulations for water quality are drawing the attention of many local governments toward landscape management practices. Healthy landscapes provide many benefits to the environment, water quality, and overall community well being. Beneficial landscape features may be highly managed or manicured, engineered to provide specific stormwater quality functions, or maintained or restored to natural condition, depending on the desired functions of the community or landowner. Municipal efforts to promote landscape water conservation and water quality protection are often targeted toward individual property owners; however, significant opportunities exist for municipalities to partner with landscaping industry professionals to achieve water quality and water conservation objectives.
