EPA, Industry Near Siloxanes Monitoring Deal Ahead Of Risk Assessment

EPA and the chemical industry are nearing an agreement on an environmental monitoring program for a siloxane chemical commonly found in consumer products, aiming to complete negotiations over the plan within roughly the next month so that the agency can then move forward with a pending risk assessment of the chemical. The agency is planning to release a draft risk assessment plan for octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4) in late summer aiming to allow public comment on the document before it undergoes peer consultation in September. The enforceable consent agreement (ECA) governing a monitoring program that is currently being negotiated by EPA and Silicone Environmental Health & Safety Council (SEHSC), which represents producers and processors, would be a component of that risk assessment plan.
