Plastic caps at Honda serve as a prime example of how the automaker has evolved its thinking toward waste streams coming from its 14 plants in North America, according to Karen Heyob, a manager for the company. Heyob, who is responsible for the company's green factory initiatives in North America, said there was a time that these caps, used to protect parts, were landfill fodder. "Way back when, we just threw them away. And over the years, as we worked toward zero-landfill, we started recycling them when we could ... confirm which kind of plastics they were," she said.
