摘要

In stark contrast to England, where a distinct national policy and legislative framework for managing municipal food waste is noticeably absent, the Welsh government has hit the ground running, driving forward on the collection and treatment of this valuable waste stream. Just over a year ago, in April 2012, Wales made history by becoming the first UK nation to introduce statutory targets for municipal recycling. Towards Zero Waste, the overarching waste strategy for Wales, requires all 22 Welsh local authorities to achieve 70% recycling or composting of municipal waste streams by 2024/25.
