House Committee Takes Issue With FDA Oversight of Puerto Rico Sites

A House committee is questioning the FDA's ability to oversee drugmakers' Puerto Rico facilities after recent recalls of McNeil OTC products and good manufacturing practice problems at several companies.rnReps. Edolphus Towns (D-N.Y.) and Darrell Issa (R-Calif), chairman and ranking member, respectively, of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, sent a letter Nov. 8 to FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg requesting information on the FDA's Puerto Rico district office and an update on the agency's investigation into McNeil's "silent" Motrin recall and the actions of FDA employees.
