Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) issued a press releasernon July 23 stating that the utility has established a planrnto compensate for increased energy demand amid a hotterrnthan expected summer in South Korea. The plan, titled “safernoperation of nuclear power plants,” was enacted by KHNPrnPresident Jae-Hoon Jung and involves strengthening cooperationrnwith related government organizations, such as the Ministryrnof Commerce, Industry and Energy, and the KorearnPower Exchange to ensure output from nuclear reactors tornmeet peak summer power demand. The 2018 plan’s powerrnsupply and demand measures will be implemented from mid-rnJuly through September 14 and seeks to add an additionalrnpower supply of 5.0 million kW during this demand period.rnFurthermore, KHNP has initiated a headquarters-oriented initiativernto provide comprehensive and immediate response tornregulatory issues in various fields to restart offline plants in arntimely manner.
