Exelon Generation announced February 2 that it will permanently shut down its Oyster Creek Generating Station in October 2018 at the end of its current operating cycle. Exelon was required to close Oyster Creek by December 2019 as part of an agreement with the State of New Jersey. Prior to the shutdown, Exelon will work with local officials, state agencies, elected representatives, and the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to plan for long-term decommissioning of the plant.
