Ostrovets 1 reaches minimum controlled power level; government confirms completion delays

On October 11, Rosatom reported that Unit 1 of the Ostrovets nuclear power plant in Belarus officially entered the self-sustaining controlled nuclear reaction to bring the unit into the minimum controlled power level. Initial criticality of the VVER-1200 allows Rosatom technicians to safely carry out several measurements and monitor the physical characteristics of the reactor core. Over 50 studies will be carried out in the coming weeks to clarify the neutron-physical characteristics of the initial core fuel load.
