On November 7, Reuters reported that Unit 2 of the Sanmennuclear power plant in Zhejiang Province, China completed168 hours of full-power operations required to enter thecommercial operation phase. While plant owner China NationalNuclear Corp. (CNNC) still must obtain several permitsand documents to formally mark the reactor’s transition fromtest operation to commercial operation, the unit is now consideredin commercial operation.Sanmen 2 is the third Westinghouse AP1000 to enter commercialservice after Sanmen 1 started up in September, followedby Haiyang 1 in October. CNNC now has 20 nuclearpower reactors in commercial operation. Another AP1000,Haiyang 2, is expected to start up in early 2019.
