Children as young as 5, in rare instances even 3, are receiving Prozac for depression and other problems like obsessive-compulsive disorder. Perhaps tens of thousands of kids are being given the medication — and the lesser-known Zoloft and Paxil — despite a lack of scientific proof that these drugs are safe and effective for children. Some critics are worried about the long-term consequences of this trend. But many parents are desperate for doctors to help them.
