The paper rented a ballroom in one of the city's swankiest joint-venture hotels; guests sipped orange juice and nibbled smoked salmon as its editor-in-chief delivered a welcoming speech in English. Yes, a People's Daily official confirmed, the paper has just started a joint venture with Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. that will involve putting the newspaper online on the Internet.
