摘要

Inspired by arguments presented in Jane Jacobs' (1961) The Death and Life of Great American Cities, the goal to deliver more human-centred and socially responsive urban environments is one advocated by many key city and design theorists of our time. Socially Restorative Urbanism: The Theory, Process and Practice of Experiemics sits within these traditions, however, what differentiates this book from others is not in its primary goal to achieve a more socially inclusive city, but is its advocating of participatory processes and in particular, active engagement with some of the most excluded or 'voiceless' in our society as a means to achieve this. The authors introduce the idea of 'Experiemics', which they define at the outset of the book as "a participative process that acts to redress imbalances in territorial relationships; and transitional edges-a socio-spatial concept of the urban habitat" (p.1).
