CIMC Raffles turns flotel into offshore wind vessel

CIMC Raffles has won a charter to lease a semi-submersible accommodation and heavy lift crane vessel for an offshore wind installation job in China's Jiangsu province. The vessel, converted from the flotel OOS Prometheus, is internally billed as H206. It left CIMC Raffles' yard in Yantai on 23 August for the East China Sea to install turbines for China Energy Group Jiangsu No 3 Electric Power Construction and Shanghai Boqiang Heavy Industry. The ABS-classed unit was marketed by Dutch flotel operator OOS International in late 2013, entering service for Petrobras in Brazil on a four-year charter in March 2014. The flotel has been moored at the CIMC Raffles yard in Yantai, Shandong province, since late 2018 after failing to secure further employment. Initially, owner CIMC Raffles and local authorities intended to convert OOS Prometheus into a tourism facility deployed 2 kilometres offshore in a water depth of 15 metres.
