Petrobras needs pair of FPSOs for Atapu and Sepia pre-salt fields

BRAZIL'S Petrobras will require a pair of new floating production, storage and offloading vessels to fully develop hydrocarbon resources at the Atapu and Sepia pre-salt fields in the prolific Santos basin offshore Brazil. Petrobras in June 2020 started output from Atapu with the P-70 FPSO and has recently reached a production plateau of 150,000 barrels per day of oil from just four producing wells. First oil from Sepia via the Car-ioca FPSO was expected to flow last week, but Petrobras will need two more large floaters - each with processing capacity of 180,000 bpd - to produce fully from the two areas, exploration and production director Fernando Borges said in an interview with local news agency EPBR. The additional units will allow Petrobras to produce what is known as the "surplus volumes" from Sepia and Atapu, referring to reserves over and above the 5 billion barrels of crude equivalent that were included in a 2010 transfer of rights agreement that also covered the giant Buzios development. It was later discovered the fields had much greater recoverable reserves, prompting the government to offer these surplus vol-umes in bid rounds.
