INDIA'S state-controlled Oil & Natural Gas corporation (ONGC) has set the tender ball rolling for a prized ocean-bottom node (OBN) seismic data acquisition campaign in the gas-rich Muk-ta-Panna region offshore the country's west coast. ONGC is carrying out multiple 2D and 3D seismic acquisition campaigns across several exploration blocks in the country aimed at ramping up its hunt for oil and gas resources despite the global disruptions in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak. Indian Prime Minister Naren-dra Modi's government plans to reduce the nation's dependence on imported oil and gas by the end of this decade, with a mandate to state-owned explorers to push forward their exploration plans. ONGC's planned large seismic campaign will be welcome news for survey players that have seen opportunities for offshore work dry up in the face of global oil market weakness, which has led operators to rein in exploration spending.
