摘要

MOZAMBIQUE and Tanzania have agreed to intensify joint efforts to tackle cross-border Islamist terrorism that could derail mega liquefied natural gas investments and poses a threat to neighbouring countries in southern Africa. Mozambique's President Filipe Nyusi paid a two-day visit to Tanzania this week at the invitation of President John Magufuli, with the two statesmen holding talks on the escalating cross-border insurgency. Nyusi said the talks were "positive" and said Tanzania is ready to co-operate to fight the insurgency in Mozambique's Cabo Delgado province, home to Total's $24 billion Mozambique LNG project and the planned home of Exxon- Mobil's equally big Rovuma LNG scheme. Insurgents have also attacked villages in southern Tanzania, having crossed the Rovuma river from Mozambique.
