The invention relates to a system for removing and handling duo-block concrete railway sleepers (cross-ties) comprising two blocks and a metal spacer piece secured to at least one of the two blocks, this system being intended to be used on a railway work train, comprising a tool (1) for taking the sleepers out of the ballast, removal means (4), two pivoting arms (5), a means for pushing the said sleepers and causing them to slide along the said pivoting arms, a conveyor (7) which carries the worn sleepers to a storage site, a means (15, 16a, 16b, 16c, 16d) of handling the worn sleepers and means of storing the worn sleepers, some of these means being duplicated so that it becomes possible to remove and handle a block individually or to remove and handle a sleeper in a single piece.
