Contest heats up for Mahakam contract

INDONESIAN engineering houses are competing for a valuable front-end engineering and design contract linked to a significant expansion of the Pertamina-oper-ated domestic Offshore Mahakam asset off East Kalimantan. The FEED contract could be worth multiple millions of dollars and has the potential to be a multi-year offering, said Indonesian contracting sources, who added that the contract is being pursued by many local companies. Recognised homegrown players include Asiatek Energi Mitratama, Singgar Mulia, Synergy Engineering, Tripatra Engineering and Suluh Ardhi Engineering, while overseas companies such as McDermott International, Saipem, TechnipFMC, Wood and Worley have local subsidiaries. The Offshore Mahakam expansion is likely to include six new offshore platforms, subsea pipelines, tie-ins to existing offshore facilities and modifications to those same existing structures as well as compression platforms.
