Delay for wells at Whiting

US supermajor ExxonMobil has delayed by potentially more than two years the planned abandonment of wells on its Whiting field off the coast of Australia. ExxonMobil had lined up Noble Corporation's jack-up Noble Tom Prosser, which has most recently drilled two development wells on its West Barracouta gas field, for the five-well Whiting campaign. However, the Whiting plugging and abandonment programme, which had been intended to start in late March, is now only expected to commence "by mid-2022", according to Australian regulator, the National Offshore Petroleum Safety & Environmental Management Authority (Nopsema).
