THE US state of New Mexico is set to hit its third year in a row of record-breaking crude production. Output in the state, which is home to the western portion of the prolific Permian basin, is expected to keep growing moderately, while other shale basins see reduced drilling. "Because of its high quality, New Mexico will be one of the few areas that will continue to grow in the next few years," vice president of unconventionals at analysis company IHS Markit, Raoul LeBlanc, told Upstream. "It's probably younger in the shale revolution and still in its growth phase," LeBlanc said of New Mexico, which also sees activity in the San Juan basin in the north-west.
