Most of us haven't enjoyed moving day since we first went to college. Upholsterers, however, are faced with the prospect of moving furniture nearly every day. While they're not moving entire households, the question of how to transport the pieces they're working on can often be problematic. Furniture upholsterers have perhaps the greatest necessity for moving since they cannot work in people's homes, and customers often can't move larger pieces on their own. Therefore, many furniture upholsterers have someone to help them move, as well as a vehicle that can hold bulky pieces. Marine fabricators do have the option of going out to a dock to work on boats, but this scenario presents its own problems. These folks need to be equipped to transport tools, they spend time away from the shop when traveling, and they need more insurance to work on the docks. All of these items obviously add to a shop's overhead. Fabricators usually prefer that their customers trailer boats to the shop, unless the boats are simply too big to transport or store.
