Description. Unmanned underwater vehicles. Sponsor. U.S. Department of Defense. Status. The Surface Mine Countermeasure (SMCM) unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) will equip the U.S. Navy's Littoral Combat Ships. Development is continuing. The NMRS was deployed in March 1999. The U.S. Navy will forgo full-scale production of the LMRS. Boeing will produce LMRS engineering design models. Technology from the Boeing and Lockheed Martin efforts will support development of the MRUUV. Total Produced. Low-rate initial production of the Surface Mine Countermeasure unmanned underwater vehicle could begin in FY15.
