Q TBM answers RME

In his recent article within T&TI (Predicting TBM Excavatability, September 2007) Bieniawski describes his newly developed RME (Rock Mass Excavatability) index, showing in his first article (Part 1) how RME can influence the ARAT (average rate of advance in m/day). He suggests significant differences in performance with open and double shield TBM according both to the rock mass RME value, and the differentiation of cases above or below a UCS of 45MPa. This is very reasonable.
