A joint venture of Traylor and Frontier-Kemper have submitted the lowest bid for a package of tunnelling work on Seattle's University Link between the University of Washington and Capitol Hill.rnThe JV bid US$309.2M to construct the twin tunnels plus part of the University of Washington station. The client, SoundTransit, will do a bid review to confirm the award.rnThe second of the two submitted tenders was US$360.8M from JCM U-Link Joint Venture.rnTunnel excavation is to be undertaken with two TBMs driving from University of Washington.rnThe University Link has a development budget of US$1.9bn and is due to be operational fromrn2016 as an extension to the Link light rail, which begin services later this year.rnAt the end of last year a contract was awarded to Condor Johnson for site preparation for the area where a TBM will pass below Interstate 5. The bid was US$19.4M, which was two-thirds of that estimated in planning.
