When well known contractor Huber Leitungsbau was asked by client Stadtwerke St. Gallen to install twin 609mm steel pipes under three busy city centre roads there was no doubting their choice of technology. The firm had experienced success on multiple projects using the Bohrtec Front Steer system and saw this as a new opportunity to use the advanced guided auger boring technique. Front Steer was developed by Bohrtec and has been continuously improved with experience from many job sites in the past years. It was designed for use in harder ground where pilot rods struggle. "We have enabled applications in very dense strata with SPT values of over 35 and in moderately strong rock," explains Dr Heinz Plum, Bohrtec managing director. "Just like the conventional methods Front Steer uses a well proven guidance system consisting of a theodolite with a CCTV camera, monitor and LED target board," he says.
