CENERI BASE TUNNEL TRIALS RESUME

SWITZERLAND -Trains are once again running through the 15.4km twin-bore Ceneri Base Tunnel for trials' completions, announced operator Alp Transit Gotthard (ATG). Trial operations have been resumed following a three-week hiatus because health and safety regulations introduced to prevent the spread of the coronavirus could not sufficiently be achieved. The main problem was maintaining a 2m safe distance in the driver's cab.Swiss infrastructure body SBB and the country's Federal Office of Public Health (BAG) have jointly agreed that the revised test operations are in accordance with the requirements stipulated by BAG. One of the new measures put into place is the presence of a designated safety officer for each shift, in addition to continuous assessment of the situation.
