Scale model and numerical validation of smoke movement in long-narrow underground fires

摘要

In this study, a scale model of the smoke movement in a long-narrow underground space has been proposed. Several non-dimensional parameters have been obtained by the theoretical analysis of this scale model. In a descending order of importance, the parameters are sorted as follows: heat release rate, longitudinal wind, wall resistance/heat loss of the convection, heat loss of radiation, heat loss of conduction, and turbulence. The scale model has been verified through numerical simulations. The simulation results showed the validity of this scale model. For the velocity field, the longitudinal ventilation was the dominating parameter, which should be satisfied with the requirement of a reduced-scale model. For the temperature field, heat radiation and heat convection were the dominating parameters, particularly for the larger scale numerical models.
