ASV2 for Passenger Cars

The Advanced Safety Vehicle (ASV) project has two phases: the phase 1 (five years from fiscal 1991 to fiscal 1995) and the phase 2 (five years from fiscal 1996 to fiscal 2000). In the phase 1, nine passenger car manufacturers participated in the project. In the phase 2, (four) manufacturers of trucks, buses or motorcycles joined in the project, and the number of participating manufacturers totaled 13. In the phase 2, research and development have been actively pursued in six areas, such as preventive safety technologies, accident avoidance technologies, autonomous driving technologies, damage mitigating technologies, post-collision injury mitigation and prevention technologies and fundamental automotive technologies.
