Cairns' Public Transport in 2004

In early 2004, I worked for six weeks in the city of Cairns in Far North Queensland. A rapidly growing urban conurbation with a population now of the order of 130,000 people, Cairns is no longer a big country town, as it once may have thought of itself. However, to use some of the city's infrastructure, one could be excused for thinking that it is little more than a small town. This article ponders the public transport (PT) aspects of this growing city which is both an important regional centre as well as a popular national and international tourist destination.
