The New Intercity Fleet and the Springwood to Lithgow corridor

In May 2014, the NSW Government announced it was ordering a New Intercity Fleet, NIF, to replace trains serving on intercity routes. It is intended that the NIF will: 1. Provide a more consistent and improved level of service for intercity passengers; 2. Facilitate the replacement of the two types of trains now serving the routes; 3. Reduce the costs of intercity operations; and 4. Increase capacity for intercity passengers.
