Westminster Abbey: A Church in History

In 2019, the 750th anniversary of the consecration of the gothic cathedral, three important books were published, providing very different insights into Westminster Abbey. Sir David Cannadine's collection of essays embraces the whole history of the abbey, a work covering more than a millennium and examining all aspects of the abbey's story. The two volume book by Warwick Rodwell and David Neal focuses in minute detail on the late 13th-century Cosmatesque Mosaics of Westminster Abbey, the culmination of nine years' work of recording and conservation. The third work, edited by Christine Reynolds, is her second volume of letters and reports submitted by the abbey's surveyors to the Dean and Chapter, in this instance covering the period between 1906 and 1973.
