ESTABLISHMENT OF AN APPLICABLE VERSION OF THE CIAU METHODOLOGY

The use of Best-Estimate (BE) codes within the reactor technology, either for design or safety purposes, implies understanding and accepting the limitations and the deficiencies of those codes. Therefore, uncertainty statements must supplement the application of BE codes. The Code with (the capability of) Internal Assessment of Uncertainty (CIAU) has been proposed by the University of Pisa to realize the integration between a qualified BE thermal-hydraulic system code (RELAP5MOD3.2) and a suitable uncertainty methodology (UMAE) and to supply proper uncertainty bands each time a Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) transient scenario is calculated.
