The integration of the nuclear analysis (neutronics, shielding, and activation) in ARIES-ACT-1 power plant and ST-FNSF had a noticeable impact on the evolution of these designs. Defining the blanket and estimating the TBR with high fidelity using state-of-the-art computational tools, optimizing all components comprising the radial build, and clever handling of the back-end of all radioactive materials are essential measures to deliver an optimal fusion design with minimal environmental impact.
