In this work, a new basis construction method was developed, demonstrated, and tested. The proposed algorithm can be used to construct an active subspace that can be used for ROM analysis. Instead of collecting snapshots based on the converged solutions, the new method employs the non-converged iterates of the solution to build the active subspace. The method is demonstrated and tested using a PWR fuel pin cell which was modeled by SCALE-6.1. Results indicate that non-converged iterates can be reliably used to build an active subspace that can represent the subspace constructed using the converged solution. However, the proposed algorithm is computationally cheap and requires less runtime. High dominance ratio systems characterized with slow convergence rates such as BWR and more complex geometries will be considered in a future topical meeting.
