Post-Irradiation Examination Results of Miniature Fuel Specimens Irradiated in the High Flux Isotope Reactor

This work shows the successful disassembly of the first target rod in the hot cell, to recover the MiniFuel sub-capsules. The fission gas release of the first MiniFuel sub-capsule has been successfully measured using an adapted puncture apparatus and cold traps. Additional PIE will be performed during summer 2019 to confirm the irradiation temperature and characterize fuel swelling and microstructural evolution.
