A wheelset suffers heavy damage when the brake isn't taken off or becomes stuck. This Norfolk Southern Top Gon coal hopper, photographed Dec. 8, 2008, got damaged on the way to National Coal's loadout on the Jellico Branch in Turley, Tenn. Engineers brake often in the Appalachia hills.
