摘要

It all started in May 2002, when the author, Sara Westin, a young student in urban planning at the time, visited the new district of Hammarby Sjostad, Stockholm, a regeneration of a former large industrial and harbour area. The district, where about 26,000 residents and 10,000 employees live and work, is located south of the city centre but separated from it by the Hammarby Lake. It is considered a model by the town administration, and is usually cited as a positive example of sustainability and of an excellent relationship with the environment. Hammarby Sjostad is visited by about 10,000 people a year and according to a survey made in 2005, residents are satisfied with die environment in the neighbourhood.
