The raison d'etre of this series, called Routledge Revivals, is to make available again from that publisher's backlist significant books long out of print. There are some weighty studies which make a reappearance, and it is good to see that one of these is Esther Moir's book. First published in 1964, it examined the development of what she dubbed the 'home tour'-,as opposed to the Grand Tour of the British on the Continent-, the discovery of England (and Wales) by the English. It was a real step forward in tourism history: it is too easily forgotten how little writing there was in the early 1960s was of literature relating to the development of domestic tourism.
