11 FLIRTs for Gotthard route

As part of its agreement to run trains via the classic Gotthard route on behalf of SBB from December 2020, Schweizerische Sudostbahn (SOB) has ordered 11 FLIRT EMUs for these services at a cost of CHF 170 million. SOB wants to operate these services using comfortable long distance trains, offering improved first class saloons with a 2+1 seating layout, family areas and buffet facilities. This batch of FLIRTs is an optional add-on to an order of new trains for the Voralpen-Express placed on 27 July 2016.
