Contrary to the bad news and gloom peddled with such glee by the national media, I believe that there are a number of sound reasons for believing that an already successful UK manufacturing sector has an even brighter future. Of immediate concern of course is the credit-crunch and impending recession. While people of even the most modest intelligence have been able to see this problem looming for several years, it seems that our bankers, regulators and government have not been able to summon up even this limited intellectual ability and spot the problem and take timely action.rnUndoubtedly, there will be short-term problems for some companies, particularly where cash is required for investment and expansion but, providing that we avoid talking ourselves into a self-reinforcing downward spiral, the liquidity problem should work its way through the system before too long (as did the dotcom bubble and the South American Debt Crisis).
